The Mohammed Haji Saboo Siddik Institute (A Muslim Minority Institution) owes its existence to
the munificence of late Mohammed\ son of Haji Saboo Siddik\ who bequeathed a large sum of money for
establishing\ conducting and managing this institution for imparting Vocational\ Technical and
Industrial training and education. The value of the assets\ so bequeathed\ exceeded Rupees Three
Crore at the time of donation. The institution is managed and administrated by the Anjuman-I-Islam
as the sole trustee\ appointed by the Bombay High Court's decree\ and scheme framed and
sanctioned thereunder. Subsequently\ when the concept of Technical High School took a shape in the
year 1945\ a sum of Rupees one lakh was also received from the assets of his mother\ Bai Jimba Bai\
after whom one of the buildings has been named in the campus of this institution.

Our beloved founder Padmabhushan Pujya Late Shri. K. J. Somaiya laid the foundation of Somaiya
Vidyavihar in 1959. It was the distinguished vision of our beloved founder that modern professional
education must remain true to the sprit of Indian ethos and culture. In the past five decades
Somaiya Vidyavihar has grown into an educational complex with thirty five institutions catering to
diverse fields of education such as Humanities Engineering Education Management and
Mass-communication with students’ strength of 27000 and 1700 faculty members in a throbbing sixty
six acres campus. The college has grown in leaps and bounds in terms of student strength courses
subjects offered and facilities etc. The college had an opportunity to endorse its standard and
class through the National Assessment and Accreditation Council an autonomous institution of
University Grants Commission in 2004. The college received ‘A’ grade in the assessment. This
motivated the Principal and Faculty to march further which culminated in starting M.Sc. courses in
Information Technology Bio-Technology and Centre for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information
Systems. Source:http://www.somaiya.edu/kjsc/aboutus.html

K. P. B. Hinduja College of Commerce was established in 1974 by late Shri Parmanand Deepchand
Hinduja who was a harmonious blend of philanthropy and mercantile activities. The illustrious man
believed in setting aside a portion of the profits from his businesses for charitable activities
especially in the field of education and healthcare which he considered to be the fundamental right
of every human being. He said “My dharma is to work so that I can give.” His concern led him to
establish the Smt. P. D. Hinduja Trust in 1944 under the aegis of which the college was established.
The institution functions under the guidance of the Hinduja Foundation which is a part of the
Hinduja Group that was established in 1914. Over the years the college has literally and
figuratively grown from strength to strength. It started with a student strength of 400 in 1974 and
has reached a figure of about 6100 at this point in time while the number of teachers has increased
from 12 up to 105. The college which started with a single Commerce course today offers 25 courses
from the Higher Secondary up to the Doctorate level and includes both the Commerce Science and Arts
streams. K.P.B. Hinduja College of Commerce at the age of 36 years is a young and promising adult
with well-defined goals and aspirations. The generous support extended by the Management the merit
of the faculty the academic excellence of the students (Average Results: 99% at H.S.C 88% at
T.Y.B.Com. and 100 % at Self financing levels) tie-ups with leading academic institutions both
national and international high ratings in nationwide surveys (In an India Today – Org Marg –
Survey on colleges which was published in the ‘India Today’ issue dated June 2010 the college
ranked No. 1st among the Commerce colleges in Mumbai and ranked No. 8th all over India) gratify and
enthuse us especially since we at Hinduja College believe ‘Sky is not the

The R.A. Podar College of Commerce & Economics Mumbai has had a long history which commences with
freedom struggle of India. The visionaries of that time realized that they should start an
institution which would inculcate the indigenous values and have the thrust of social and cultural
value system that are typical to the grand heritage of our country. In August 1940 the trust
known as 'Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali' Pune made an application to the Bombay University for
permission to start a Commerce College. The Industrialist and Philanthropist and a visionary Seth
Ramdeoji Anandilal Podar was deeply interested in the cause of education. He wished to build an
institution in the memory his brother Ramniranjan Anandialal Podar who had died at a young age. At
the cost of Rs.150000/- he constructed the building that houses the college today and gifted it to
the S.P. Mandali on the 7th February 1941. The Senate of Bombay University granted permission
to start the College initially for a period of two years with 150 students on its rolls. The
College building with its famed clock tower was handed over by Seth Ramdeoji Anandilal Podar to the
S.P. Mandali. Barrister M.R. Jayankar inaugurated the college building formally. The college was
named “ Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce”. The Mandali has been rendering
notable service under tits motto of unflinchingly carrying out the mission undertaken and has kept
up its well- defined objectives. The objectives in regard to Commerce education have been to extend
popular and reasonably affordable higher education in Maharashtra and to develop an institution that
would impart appropriate education both in Commerce and Economics. The institution first
started the B. Com. Degree course in 1942 and the word Economics was added to the name of College.
It now became ‘Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce and Economics’. The College
received permanent affiliation from the University of Mumbai on 17th August
1950. Source:http://www.rapodar.ac.in/index.php
