Q. I am Studying in 10th Std. I want to become an IAS officer. Please provide me with complete information on IAS?

Answer: To become an I.A.S. officer you require to qualify through the Indian Civil Services examination. Thereafter you will be called for an interview based on which your final selection will be made.To be eligible to take the Indian Civil Services test, you need to a graduate with age around 21-30.

As for the skill set, you need to be Alert, Diplomatic and discreet with fluency in English and local languages. You need to have above average organising abilities, Excellent communication skills and Strong leadership abilities. You need to be Extrovert, dynamic, meticulous with awareness about national and international affairs and interest in human affairs.

There are many private coaching classes which will help fine tune your knowledge and skills but the basic groundwork will have to be done by you. Please read as many genereal awareness magazines, periodicals and daily and business newspapers as possible to keep yourself updated.

Answer: For becoming a customs officer, one can either join the Indian Customs and Central Excise Services which falls under the Indian Civil Services or join as an Inspector of Central Excise and Customs.

For joining the Indian Civil Services, one has to qualify through the CSE (Civil Service Examination). To join as an Inspector of Central Excise and Customs, one has to qualify through the Combined Graduate Level Examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission, Government of India. For both the examinations, the minimum eligibility is a graduation in any subject.

Answer: Yes you can go for Air force.

In there, candidates must be in accordance with the prescribed physical standards i.e. they should be physically fit and free from any disease or disability and excess fat.

The minimum acceptable height for the Air Force is 162 cm.
(For Gurkhas and residents of north-eastern India, Garhwal and Kumaon, the minimum acceptable height is 5 cm lower than the standard and from candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum height is lowered by 2 cm.)
Candidates must have perfect eyesight (known as 6/6 vision).

This general knowledge paper is very important. This paper has a maximum of 150. You are expected to have keen interest in your surroundings and are supposed to have a good amount of interest in current affairs. Regular and detailed reading of a good national newspaper, a standard competition magazine and a basic book on general knowledge is the essential pre-requisite. For History, Economy, Polity, etc, it is advisable to read Class 11 and 12 books published by the NCERT. Some books on the freedom struggle are published by the National Book Trust. Answer: To be eligible to take the ICS test you need to a graduate in any stream with age around 21-30.

The examination is conducted in two successive stages
1) Preliminary Exam & 2) Main Exam
Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of objective type of 450 Marks. Paper I is on general studies and Paper II on One optional subject

The Main Exam consists of a written exam and an interview. The written exam has 9 papers of conventional essay type. Marks obtained in the Main Exam will determine whether you are called for the interview. The interview carries 300 marks and the number of candidates called is about twice the number of vacancies. Paper I is again One optional language. Paper II
English. Paper III is an Essay. Paper IV & V on General Studies and
Paper VI-IX any two optional subjects. Marks obtained in the Main Exam plus interview determines the final ranking.
