YoungBuzz Counselor - Hi Andy. The major advantages of getting into journalism are that you get to write and express on the topics that you wish to. Although it takes time to settle in a career like journalism, but if you are creative enough and passionate, then there is good money in it. Even though there is a demand for professional journalists, it's still an unconventional career unlike engineering, medicine and teaching. This probably must be one of the reasons for your parents disinterest.
Various colleges call the courses by different names. Like come call is as BMM (mass media) and some as BCJ (communications and journalism).
Nevertheless, in order to get into the career you will need to complete you bachelors and then follow it up with a PG in Journalism.
We understand that career decision is one of the important decisions that one can take, hence you need to be doubly sure before you take that plunge.
Hence read up as much as you can on the careers that you think you are interested in.

Another way of making an informed career decision is to give the career test which will help you know more about yourselves in terms of you interest, aptitudes and personality.

Log on to http://www.youngbuzz.com/career-assessment/role-assessment-career-counselling for more information.

After giving the test you will get a report which will give you complete information about your likes in terms of your careers, your work values and your aptitudes. THis will be followed by top most career recommendation given by the YoungBuzz career expert based on your report.

Go through the sample report too which will give you an idea as to how your report will look like.

Hope this helps.

Do write to us with further queries.

Wishing you all the best for a bright future, Andy!
