Mumbai, the most populous city in India and the 6th most populous city in the world is a favourite destination for the country’s IIT toppers. So speaks the first allotment of seats for IIT-JEE 2011 students. The results were declared on Tuesday, 21st June, 2011.
The Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) is most preferred amongst the eight premier tech institutes in India. The lush green campus in the middle of a bustling city, the top of the line placement offered to IIT-B students and best academic and extra curricular activities have attracted the toppers to IIT-B every year. According to statistics given by DNA, 22nd June edition, last year eight students from the top ten opted for IIT-B. This year however five students out of the top ten have opted to pursue their academics in IIT-B. Nearly 70 of the top 100 scorers have chosen IIT-B as their choice.
IIT-B also seems to have a brand value attached to it as Mumbai is the financial hub of India and students feel that companies prefer IIT-B students over the students from other institutes. Out of a total number of 13,197 candidates who had qualified for IIT JEE-2011 counselling (seat allocation), 9319 candidates were allotted seats. 3,878 candidates did not get any seat due to various reasons.
Course allocation to successful candidates will be declared on 28th June, 2011.
