These Master’s programmes at RWTH Aachen University have been designed especially for international applicants. Most programmes are taught in either English or German.

The established overall minimum requirements for admission are:

a recognised first degree from an accredited educational institution (B.Sc., B.A., Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent, related to your envisaged degree programme)
above average undergraduate work
English language proficiency (oral and written - TOEFL 550/213/80 or IELTS 6.0 required)
GRE (general test), obligatory for Biomedical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Combustion Engines, Production Systems Engineering and Computer Aided Conception and Production of Machines Simulation. In all other Master’s programmes the GRE is recommended but not mandatory.
Documents Required
Places in our Master's programmes will be awarded following a competitive selection process. For this reason, please submit the following documents with your application:

the online application form (Adobe Acrobat Reader required), completely filled, printed out and signed, when you are done with the online application procedure.
a copy of all first degree academic certificates
a certified translation of your degree certificate in either German, English, or French, in case the original documents are not written in one of these languages
a copy of all transcripts or other academic records that give proof of your undergraduate studies including credits and grades achieved in each single subject
a certified translation of your transcripts and other academic records in either German, English, or French, in case the original documents are not written in one of these languages.
a copy of the GRE certificate if necessary (please check information on individual programmes for more detail)
Applicants who have completed their previous education in China must also include the Certificate of Authenticity (Echtheitsbestätigung) issued by the Academic Acknowledgement Bureau in Beijing (Akademische Prüfstelle in Peking. For more information, please also refer to the web pages provided by RWTH Liaison Office in Beijing.

Language Requirements
If you would like to attend an English-taught Master’s programme with you must be fluent in English (oral and written) in order to understand lectures, textbooks and manuals in English and to participate in lab projects, industrial internships and examinations.

You should have an IELTS certificate (score 6.0) or of the TOEFL certificate (score 550 paper-based / 213 computer-based / 80 internet-based). The TOEFL score report must not be older than two years by October of the year the Master’s programme you are applying for will start. The original TOEFL Score report must be received by RWTH Aachen University directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The ETC/TOEFL code for RWTH is 8504.
Applicants who received their education in USA, UK, Canada [English speaking part], Ireland, New Zealand and Australia do not have to submit language certificates.
Certification of German language proficiency is not necessary in order to apply for an English-taught RWTH Master's programme. Successful applicants will attend an obligatory German language course starting in September (one month prior to the beginning of the programme).
Application Deadline
1 March for all English-taught Master's degree programmes commencing in October.

Note: You should submit your application as early as possible since airmail can take up to four weeks and the visa up to eight weeks. Admitted applicants will receive a letter of response as soon as possible. Letters of admission/rejection will be send out in April/May at the earliest.

Please also note that RWTH Aachen University does no longer charge any fees for processing your application.
