created: 22nd Mar 2017 Last Modified: 22nd Mar 2017The ISS examination is conducted for recruitment of the Grade IV officers for the Indian Statistical Services. Eligibility: Age limit - 21 to 28 years. The examination consists of two parts:
Part I: Written examination consisting of the following papers:
Part II - Viva voce of such candidates as may be called by the commission carrying a maxi.of 250 marks.
Selection of candidates : After qualifying in the written examination, candidates are called for a personality test. Final selection is held on the basis of qualifying marks and personality test.
For application, look for detailed notification in the Employment News and other leading dailies in the month of March/April.
If you get into ISS, you will have very little time to devote to studying for a Ph. D or Actuarial Science. But yes, you can obtain a permission from the concerned authority for studying. And on attaining seniority, you can opt for a study leave also.
After an M. Sc. in Statistics/ M. Stat, you may get a job with any one of the following organisation:
Market Research organizations like ORG-MARG and MODE
Economic and social Research organization like Center for Monitoring Indian Economy and National Council of Applied Economic Research.
Corporate organisations - statisticians are involved in quality control, market research, business forecasting, operations research and other related operations in various companies.
Government Departments other than in Indian Statistical Services various Ministries engage Statisticians for example, Ministry of Commerce, Directorate of Commercial Intelligence & Statistics.
University Departments as a lecturer/research fellow
Other opportunities in medical research organisations under ICMR (Indian Council for Medical Research), in agricultural research organisations under ICAR (Indian Council for Agricultural Research), and other research organisations in various fields.
