Generally, you will get a job as a trainee in the designing, fashion coordinating, or fashion merchandising departments of a designing house. If you are in design, you will progress to become a junior designer and then an assistant designer/ senior designer before becoming the chief designer. You will progress in the same manner in fashion co-ordination as well as fashion merchandising. You can also get jobs in departmental stores, garment manufacturing companies, garment export companies, and with independent fashion designers. Hierarchies in all these jobs are almost similar and while you will not need any experience in the beginning, you will need good experience to become the chief designer or be an independent designer. Stipend for trainees at a design house is in the range of Rs 7000 - 10000 per month. Once you are inducted, the pay ranges from Rs 10000-15,000 or more.
