I am an amature artist and I am keen to take it up as my career. I am also doing MBA. Should I take art foregoing my MBA? Can you help me? How should I go about it?

To develop your career in art, one generally has to struggle a lot initially. Financially, you may not be in a good position until you make a name for yourself and your work starts getting a good price in the market. To make the initial years less troublesome, you can follow one of the following two options:

Option 1: Try for a job as an artist/ visualiser. You can get a job with art studios, advertising agencies, creative consultants, newspapers, magazines and book publishing houses. Make your own portfolio (containing the best of your work) and start applying. Simultaneously, start approaching art galleries, agents and promoters to organise your exhibition. Identify organisations which promote young artists. The best way to make yourself known is through exhibitions. Once you get a job, forego your MBA.

Option 2: Dont forego your MBA immediately. Complete your MBA and then get a job. Once you are secure in the job, make your portfolio and start scouting for art galleries, agents, and promoters to organise your exhibition. Identify organisations which promote young artists. Start doing the exhibitions taking occasional breaks from work. Once you are satisfied that you are earning enough from art to sustain yourself, leave the job and devote yourself to it full time.

You can follow your passion, however I would suggest to do MBA, as to become a artist it will take time, so you should complete your study as a second option. you can also pursue distance MBA from LPU. The distance MBA programme in India offers the same benefits as a campus-based course in that it offers the same curriculum. Another catch for most students applying to the programme is that tuition and fees for distance MBA can be lower than that for a regular full-time programme. N the post-globalization period, there is a huge requirement of man power having MBA degree to cater to the needs of manufacturing and service organizations and also able to hone the management skills of the budding entrepreneurs who may not be professionally qualified. Further, the manpower which is already employed in manufacturing and service organizations, not having MBA degree, are required to upgrade their qualifications. The aim of the MBA is to equip graduates with the knowledge regarding the fundamental disciplines of business; to provide graduates with the theoretical frameworks and analytical tools necessary to successfully manage a modern enterprise; to ensure that graduates are equipped to act professionally and ethically in their chosen field; to ensure that graduates are able to add significant value to their organizations. As per my experience, one must choose to pursue a distance-based MBA from LPU as MBA Programme is designed for students who aspire to be business leaders and managers of the future. The programme aims to impart the necessary knowledge, skills, and self-confidence to assist in effective and successful management, within constantly changing and highly competitive national and international business environments. Students may choose Core specialisation or Major-Minor Specializations from any of the following areas of specialisation I. e. (1) Finance (2) Human Resource Management (3) Marketing (4) Information Technology (5) International Business (6) Operations Management (7) Retail Management For more details, visit the lpu website.
