There are not many differences between a course in fashion designing and a course in dress designing. A course in fashion design is a generalized course teaching you all aspects of designing garments right from sketching, designing, development, texture, colour, patterns, fabric selection to merchandising. On the other hand, a course in dress designing focuses on designing of garments for various specific groups like children clothes, clothes for teen aged men and women, clothes for adult men, clothes for adult women and so on. Dress designing courses are also called Apparel designing courses.

But in both the courses, you will learn to design garments. In case of fashion designing, you will learn to be a generalist designer and in case of dress designing, you will be expert in designing specific type of garments.

There are various courses in Dress Designing/ Apparel designing available. Most of the courses are Diploma which you can do after passing your 12th Standard examination.
