I am doing B Pharmacy (final year). I want to know whether doing MBA after B Pharmacy is a good option and can I do MBA by correspondence (whether it has got the same value as a regular course) Or should I do M Pharmacy after my B Pharmacy? What kind of jobs can I seek after that?
Acquiring an MBA after B. Pharm is definitely a good option. An MBA will help you to develop a good career in pharmaceutical marketing and business administration. It will also open a host of opportunities before you in case you do not want to build up your career in Pharmaceutical industry. But an MBA by correspondence will not do any good to you unless you have executive experience in the pharmaceutical industry prior to joining the MBA course. For fresh candidates, a 2 years full time MBA from a good institute is a better option.
An M. Pharm after your bachelor’s will make you eligible for specialised jobs in the pharmaceutical industry. The exact nature of your job will depend on your subject of specialisation in M. Pharm. For example, if you specialise with Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry, you will get a job in the research and development department of a pharmaceutical company. If you specialise with Pharmaceutical Technology, then you will get a job in the production functions of a pharmaceutical company.
The final decision of yours, as to whether to do an MBA or an M. Pharm should depend on your true abilities, interests and personality. If your abilities, interests and personality are suitable for a career in business administration, then go for an MBA, or else go for an M. Pharm.
