Hoteliering is basically a service industry. You can either work for a star-rated hotel, restaurant, club, resort, motel, catering department, cruise-liners or airlines.

The different departments in a hotel are:

General Operations: Main responsibilities of this department are supervision, co-ordination and administration of all other departments as well as overall financial control.

Front Office: As the Front Office Manager, you will be at the centre of all activities. Major tasks performed are providing information; making reservations and handling check-ins and check-outs.

Food And Beverage: This is the hub of the hotel industry and is responsible for all the food prepared and served in the hotel.

Housekeeping: Functions include making sure that the rooms are kept in order and all the needs of the guests are met.

Sales And Marketing: As a Business Development Manager, you will interact with travel agents, tour operators as well as corporate clients to promote the hotel. You will also be involved in advertising and public relations.

Apart from the above-mentioned departments, other areas such as engineering, security, finance and personnel are also very essential for the smooth operation of a hotel.

Requirements: You should be having an outgoing personality and love to meet people and talk to them. You need to be organised, tactful and good at communication skills.

As for the educational and professional qualifications, A diploma or degree in Hotel Management will get you a job as an Executive/Management Trainee in a hotel. This can be done after HSC. A diploma after SSC (in Housekeeping/Food craft/Front office) will place you as an Operational Trainee in a hotel. Alternatively, you can also join a hotel as an apprentice directly after your HSC in any stream. Some hotels even take graduates in any subject as Executive Trainees. There is scope for MBAs in the marketing, finance and human resources departments.

Opportunities in this field are a goldmine. Apart from working in hotels, restaurants, cafs, resorts, guesthouses and casinos, you could also be employed in the tourism industry, conference centres and large companies in various industries.

well there are many colleges but I know about the LPU. LPU is good for hotel management in terms of placement as my friends also got placed while studying in the LPU.

Good placements record with minimum 10% students selected as Management Trainee (Junior Executive level) till date and the placement is with brands like Cox & Kings, Carnival Cruise, Jet Airways, Oberoi, Taj, Leela, etc.

Package: Six students were offered the package of Rs 8 Lakhs by Carnival Cruise last year.

Internship: Industry internships in top national and international five-star hotel brands like The Leela Palace, ITC, Taj, Oberoi, The Grand, Marriott, etc.

The best thing I like about LPU about placement is, they provide placement classes to all the students from the very first year who opt for the placement. With the help of this, they can prepare themselves for placements till the pre-final year because the companies will start visiting for the recruitment of students from a pre-final year. Some of the students go for internships also in their final year.

Recently, LPU achieved the Guinness World Records title of "Largest online video album of people saying the same sentence," where students are thanking LPU for making them a part of its LARGEST PLACEMENT NETWORK!

LPU received an Employability award by Aspiring Mind in 2020 for best placement Institute in India.

LPU is ranked 10th best university for Training and Placement in 2019 by Knowledge Review

LPU got the Golden Star Award 2018 for being the University with the best placements in India.

I hope this helps Thanks!!!
