The history of this college can be traced back to 1901, when Bhagwan Dev Atma, the most worshipful founder of Dev Samaj, established Girls High School, Ferozepur City. These were the times when education of girls was very much despised. This premier and popular institution served as an incentive for the establishment of many other reputed institutions in Northern India. In 1957 Dev Samaj Girls High School and Dev Samaj Junior Model School was established. Consequently, Dev Samaj College for Women, Chandigarh was started in 1981. During this short period of its existence, this college has carved a distinctive place among the local colleges and can be compared well with other colleges affiliated to Panjab University.Year of provisional affiliation is July 1981.
At Dev Samaj equal opportunities for education, work and service for Indian women should be provided to cultivate in them characterstics which will make them good daughters, sisters, wives and mothers. This inspired some of his devoted disciples to setup women institutions. Dev Samaj aims at social, moral and spiritual uplift of humanity. Special attention is therefore, paid in its institutions, to inculcate altruistic feelings among students, namely reverence, gratitude, spirit of sympathy and charity, sense of duty, sense of discipline etc.to make them good citizens.College got permanent affiliation in March 1995 to Panjab University, Chandigarh.
