There are a few different routes to get into this field. The first route would be to pursue your HSC with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as your subjects. Follow this with a B. Sc. in Biological Science and then Post graduation in Food Science/ Applied Nutrition/ Food & Nutrition/ related course. The second route would be for you to complete your 10+2 in Home Science and Chemistry. Top this with a B. Sc. in Home Science and follow it with a M. Sc. in Home Science with specialization in Food Science/ Applied Nutrition/ Food & Nutrition. There are also a number of Diploma courses in Dietetics/ Food & Nutrition/ other related areas.

Hi there, you can start your career as a nutrition by first pursuing education in the related field. BSc Nutritions and Dietetics is a three year program that produces graduates with strong basic concepts of nutrition and diet planning which help in crafting skilful and hospitality industry ready nutrition experts for addressing the health challenges. Eligibility is Pass with 60% aggregate marks in 10+2 (with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Biotechnology) or equivalent, subject to qualifying LPUNEST. LPU offers B.sc In Nutrition and Dietetics which will help you in Constructing strong basic foundation in concepts of nutrition and diet plan, thus crafting skillful and be a notion ready nutritional experts for addressing the health challenges. If you have an inborn interest in cooking and exploring various cuisines from different countries, nutrition and dietetics is one subject which will help you explore how to design controlled diets. Based on the body mass index, you can design your own food charts that would summarise the quantity of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins which must be consumed everyday. Visits to Aanganwadis and NGOs creating awareness about nutrition among masses are an important part of the curriculum. Regular interactive sessions with academicians and chief dietitians to update knowledge on the latest technologies are part of this course at LPU. Students are exposed to Community to know about the extension education and community nutrition. Students are also engaged in hospital for internship as dietitian to learn about the patients counselling techniques and report analysis. The curriculum at LPU offers prime focus on fundamental and applied aspects of preparation and management of nutrition and diet plan for various age groups. For a career, initially, this may be a low paying job. But once you have picked up and gained experience, there is a lot of scope and you may earn quite well and travel abroad as well. As a career, hotels, cruise lines, hospitals, nursing homes and government health departments recruit nutrition and dietetics professionals for a good salary. If you join a shipping company such as Shell, Maersk or their subsidiary companies that run tourist ships along with logistics and oil etc. , you would get the opportunity to travel to several countries situated along the shorelines. LPU gives you all the opportunities to excel in your course and be a perfectionist. I am not much aware about Nutrition and dietetics course, But my friend has done this course and she is currently placed in Nestle, through Campus placement.
