I am a 11th class student and want to be IAS or PCS officer. Please give me information on which college is good, which subects should I concentrate on, what is the minimum age, expenditure and whether English language is compulsory?

IAS/ IPS are not courses which you can study in a college. These are names of Class I services with the Government of India. To get into these services, you will have appear for the Civil Services Examination (CSE). Minimum age for appearing for an CSE is 21 years. You have to a graduate in any subject. English comes as one of the compulsory papers so you need to learn the language. You will incur Rs 50/- for appearing in UPSC.

You can choose any subject which interests you to get into Civil services. You can choose an optional subject and write the CSE in that subject.

Following is the list of Optional subjects for prelimnary examination:

Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Commerce, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Geography, Geology, Indian History, Law, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology, Statistics, Zoology.

Following is the list of List of Optional subjects for Main Exam:

You need to orient yourself well with general awareness and your current area of studies too. You will need to select the optional subject depending on your area of specialisation in your undergraduation studies.
