You have to pass BE for ME admission. Most universities conduct an admission test and/or interview for ME. Apart from the admission tests, you should also qualify in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering). Academic results of BE, GATE score, and results of the admission test and/or interview are considered for admission to ME. Some universities do not ask for GATE score. However, candidates who have cleared the GATE are given first preference.

GATE is an all India examination conducted in February every year by IITs. It constitutes one optional paper of three hours duration. You can choose from various branches in engineering like agricultural engineering, architecture, civil engineering, chemical engineering, computer science and engineering, and electronics and communication engineering or from various science subjects like physics, chemistry, mathematics or geology. You can also choose a general paper on engineering sciences. The GATE score is valid for two years. The notification for GATE is published in September in all the leading newspapers in India
