    My Tests

I am a student of B Com 2nd year. I am interested in taking up fashion designing as my career, but my folks are against it. They say it is not a secure profession. I don't have the resources necessary to go to a big city and do it. Tell me how I can go about it.

Pursuing a career in fashion design is not about going to a big city. It is a question of choosing the right institute, which will train you as a good fashion designer so that you are successful in your career. If you have the right potential, doing a course from a reasonably good institute will be sufficient for you. At the same time, it is true that big cities like Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore offer the maximum number of job opportunities. If you want to work independently, then you can be based in any city depending on the potential market for your work in the city.

Following are few good institutes in India:

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)

NIFT Campus, P.O. Jubilee Hills,

Opp. Hi-tech city,

Madhapur, Hyderabad 500 003.

National Institute of Fashion Technology

NIFT Campus, Near Gulmohar Park,

Hauz Khas,

New Delhi 110 016.

Other NIFT centers are in Calcutta, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Bangalore, Mumbai, Bhubaneswar, and Chandigarh.

National Institute of Design,

Paldi, Ahmedabad. (for courses in Apparel Design)

Pearl Academy of Fashion

C-56/2, Okhla Industrial Area Phase II,

New Delhi - 110 020.

J D Institute of Fashion Technology,

Sheriff House,

85, Richmond Road,

Bangalore - 560 025.

All these institutes have courses for graduates as well as students who have passed HSC.
