I am Electronics Engineering and have just finished my course. Is the Indian Air Force offering any post graduate courses in Aeronautics? If offered, could you please give me the details of the selection procedure, the admission, age-limit and other requirements? Please tell me the details of the entrance test, syllabus, and the month in which the exam is held.

Yes, Indian Airforce offers training in Aeronautical Engineering for the graduates in Electronics/Telecommunication/Communication Engineering. The course is for 1 year. If you can complete the training successfully, you have to serve the Airforce as a Short Service Commissioned/ Permanent Commissioned officer. The training course is provided by the AFTC, Bangalore. The course commences twice a year in May and November. Eligibility: A degree in Electronics/ Telecommunication Engineering /Electronic communication combination of these subjects or on Electronics Communication engineering with a minimum aggregate marks of 55% or equivalent grade with. Applications are called for twice a year in the month of January and July through advertisement published in the leading newspapers/Employment News. Your age should be within 18 and 28 years. Admission to the course is made through written examination conducted by UPSC followed by a Services Selection Board interview for those who pass the written examination. The written examination will be a test of your knowledge in the fundamental science of engineering, electronics and telecommunication engineering. If you qualify in the written examination, you will be called by the SSB (Service Selection Board) for an interview. This SSB interview is a comprehensive test of one's personality, intelligence and suitability to be chosen as an officer in the Indian Airforce. SSB interview lasts for 3 to 4 days and has several components:

1] Intelligence test - Engineers go through the officers intelligence rating test. This test is designed to find out the basic intelligence level of the candidates. Only those who achieve a minimum acceptable level and grade are required to undergo the Personality Test, which is common to all candidates.

2] Personality tests - These tests are as follows

Situation Reaction Test (SRT) - Sixty situations are given and the candidate is required to answer the reactions within 30 minutes.

Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) - A set of 12 pictures are shown and the candidate is required to write a story in 3 minute for each picture.

Word Association Test (WAT) - Sixty words are projected and the candidate is required to make a sentence, in 15 seconds for each word.

3] Group test - Group Test is conducted in batches of 8-10 candidates. The test consists of group planning, group discussion, outdoor group tasks. The candidates are asked to take lectures on certain topics.

4] Interview - This is to test the personality of the candidate. This includes general awareness.

If you are selected in the SSB interview, then you will be called for the Medical test. Your final selection will depend on clearing of the Medical test.
