created: 22nd Mar 2017 Last Modified: 22nd Mar 2017You can join the Indian Army after your graduation through the Technical Graduate course entry scheme. Under this entry scheme, engineering graduates are recruited for Engineering Corps, Signal corps, Electrical & Mechanical corps, Armoured corps, Artillery, Infantry, and Intelligence corps. You can also join the Indian Army under the Short Service Commission (Technical) scheme. Under this scheme, technical graduates are recruited for Engineering corps, Signal corps, and Electrical & Mechanical corps. Age limit for these two types of entry is between 19 and 26 years. B. E/ B. Tech or equivalent degree holders in Civil/Mechanical/ Telecommunication/ Electronics/ Electrical/ Computer Sc. & Engineering and M. Sc. in Computer Sc./ MCA are eligible for the Technical Graduate Course entry scheme. For the Short Service Commission (Technical) entry, one needs to have a degree in Engineering or equivalent in Civil/ElectricaL/Mechanical/Telecommunication/Electronic/Electrical & Electronic/ Computer Sc. & Engineering. As you are going to have a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, you will be eligible for both the entry schemes.
Selection process: At first candidates short-listed on the basis of the application. The short listed candidates are required to undergo a SSB (Service Selection Board) interview including group test, psychological Test & interview. After qualifying that, candidates have to appear for a Medical test.
Notifications for these entry schemes are published in the month of May/June in Employment News and other leading newspaper.
CDS examinations are conducted every year to recruit candidates for the Military training course at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and for the Officers Training Academy, Chennai and subsequent commission in the Indian Army. The written examination consists of questions on English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics. The examination is generally held twice a year in September and March in all the major cities in India. Examination notification is published in April and October in all the leading dailies and Employment News.
Graduate of any recognized Indian University is eligible for appearing in the CDS examination. Age should be between 18 and 24 years. Candidates who are short-listed on the basis of the written examination are called for SSB (Service Selection Board) interview. This interview, which lasts for 5 days, comprises of medical and written tests, outdoor physical tests, a personal interview, psychological assessment and group tests. On clearing the interview you are directly enlisted into the various Training Centres.

NCC A certificate holders do not get any benefit. There is a special entry scheme for the NCC C certificate holders with a minimum of B grade in the C certificate examination.
As a son of an army personnel, you dont get any advantage in the recruitment process but if you are selected, under the Parental Claim scheme, you have the priviledge of opting for the regiment where your father works.
