created: 22nd Mar 2017 Last Modified: 22nd Mar 2017You havent mentioned your stream of studies in higher secondary. You can appear for NDA (National Defence Academy) examination if you are from any stream in higher secondary.
Eligibility to join NDA: Only male candidates who have passed 10+2. Age: 16 - 18 years. Minimum height - 157.5 cm with co-related weight, chest should be well developed with minimum 5 cm expansion. Vision should be 6/6 with or without glasses. Myopia should not be more than 2.5D and hypermetropia not more than 3.5D including Astigmatism.
Procedure: Written examination followed by Intelligence and Personality test of candidates who qualify in the written examination by the Service Selection Board. NDA examination is generally held twice in a year - June and December in all major Indian cities. Examination notification is published in January and July in all leading Indian newspapers and in Employment News. Union Public Service Commission conducts the written examination.
Subject of the written entrance examination: Paper I: Mathematics. Paper II: General Ability
The papers in all subjects consist of objective type questions only.
Syllabus for Examination
(a) Paper I Mathematics (Maximum marks 300): Arithmetic, Mensuration, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Statistics
(b) Paper II - General Ability
Part A - English (Maximum Marks 200)
Part B - General Knowledge (Maximum Marks 400) consisting of sections:
Section A Physics; B Chemistry; C - General Science; D - History, Freedom Movement, etc; E Geography and F - Current Events.
Questions on Sections A, B, C, D, E and F carry approximately 25%, 15%, 10%, 20%, 20% and 10% weightage respectively of the maximum marks assigned to Part B of this paper.
Service Selection Board (SSB) Interview: Candidates who qualify in the written examination appear for intelligence and personality tests by the SSB. This interview lasts 3 to 4 days and includes:
Part I: Intelligence test Designed to find out basic intelligence level. Only those who achieve a minimum acceptable level and grade are required to undergo the Personality Test, which is common to all candidates.
Part II: Personality tests - These tests are as follows
Situation Reaction Test (SRT) - Candidates are required to give their reactions within 30 minutes sixty situations.
Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) - A set of 12 pictures are shown. Candidates are required to write a story in 3 minutes for each picture.
Word Association Test (WAT) - Sixty words are projected. Candidates are required to make a sentence in 15 seconds for each word.
Part III: Group test - Group Test is conducted in batches of 8-10 candidates. The test consists of group planning, group discussion and outdoor group tasks. The candidates are asked to take lectures on certain topics.
Part IV: Interview - Tests the personality of the candidate and includes general awareness.
