    My Tests

I am in the second year graduation in Osmania University. My subjects are Microbiology, Chemistry, and Computer. I have recently heard that people without Life Sciences like Botany are not eligible for PG courses like Biotech. Please send me information about this question. Are there chances for me to study Biotechnology in PG? Send about the details of colleges offering these courses.

As Microbiology and Chemistry are two of the subjects you are studying, you will be eligible for Master degree courses in Biotechnology in most of the Universities and colleges. You will not meet eligibility criteria for some of the Universities.

A few of the institutions where you are eligible:

Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi 221005

Calicut University, Kerala 673 635

Devi Ahilya University, Indore , Nalanda Parisar, 169 Ravindra Nath Tagore Marg, Indore 452001

University of Hyderabad, P.O. Central University, Gachibowli, Hyderabad 500 046

Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi

New Mehrauli Road, New Delhi 110067

Madurai Kamaraj University, Palkalai Nagar, Madurai 625021

Pondicherry Universtiy, R V Nagar, Pondicherry 605 014

University of Pune, Ganeshkhind Pune 411 007

For admission to all these Universities, you will have to appear for the Combined Biotechnology Examination conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Mehrauli Road, New Delhi-110067

The institutions below have their individual entrance examination.

Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay, Powai, Mumbai- 400076

(you must have studied Mathematics at least till standard 12)

Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Barkatullah University, Bhopal- 462026

Banasthali Vidyapith, P.O. Banasthalic Vidyapith- 304022, Rajasthan

Dayananda Sagar Institutions, Kumarasveany Layout, New Banshaukari Temple, Bangalore - 560078

But the most important issue is that although you are eligible for the courses, almost all the entrance examinations for M. Sc. Biotechnology contain questions on Biological Science (on all topics under Biological Science like Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Physiology), Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry), and Mathematics. Standards of the questions are fundamental and basic, i.e., equivalent to the level of higher secondary curriculum. So to qualify in the entrance examinations, you will have to be thorough in all these subjects at least up to the higher secondary level.
