Airlines recruit and select airhostesses on the basis of certain attributes. You need the following: well groomed look with a pleasing personality; age below 25 years; graduation in any discipline (even higher secondary will do for a few airlines and a diploma/degree in Hotel Management or Tourism Management is preferred by a few airlines); at least 155 cm height with proportionate weight; normal vision (contact lenses are allowed up to a certain limit); capacity to be on your feet for long hours; well-modulated voice; excellent communication skills in English and Hindi; friendly and outgoing personality; patience and an attitude to help people. You will need to be very smart, suave and stylish.

Prior experience in hotels or in the tourism industry may help and of course you have to be unmarried. You can marry after a few years in service but not when you are applying. Skills to speak one foreign language other than English and Hindi fluently as well as other regional languages may also help. Once you are selected, you will be trained by the airline itself. Every airline in the world has its own training establishment. For example, Indian Airlines has its training centre in Hyderabad.

But if you insists for a prior training, you can contact Sahara India Aviation Academy

249/250 Block A, Road No.6, National Highway No.8, Mahipalpur, (Near I. G. International Airport) New Delhi - 110 037, Tel.: 011- 26138513. It sometimes offers training to people other than who are selected as cabin crew in Sahara Airlines.

Whenever, there is a need for recruitment of cabin crew, airlines generally place an appointment advertisement in newspapers. You should be looking for appointment advertisement in leading English newspaper in your region. You can also regularly search web sites of airlines operating in India like Indian Airlines, Air India, Jet Airways, Sahara Airlines, Alliance Air, British Airways, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways etc.

Though currently there is a slump in the air traffic industry, the number of job opportunities for airhostess or cabin crew are bound to increase. Just look at the increase in the number of airlines operating in India now. This includes domestic airlines like Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Sahara Airlines; foreign airlines operating flights to-and-from India like Emirates, Cathay Pacific, British Airways and Delta Airlines; Indian carrier like Air India which operates on international routes. All these airlines recruit air hostesses or cabin crew.
