The best option is features journalism to start with. Travel journalism is rarely offered to a fresher. A good idea is to write up some freelance articles on the trips you make during your own holidays and either publish them in smaller magazines. This combined with some experience in features journalism might provide you a break in travel journalism in a while. Keep your eyes open about job ads from travel magazines or channels. A geography background is also an asset for careers in travel Journalism. Alternatively you could also pursue a course in creative writing, which is offered by Xavier's Institute of Communication (www.xaviercomm.org) and Mumbai University (http://www.mu.ac.in/helencross.html). The British Council located in all the major metro cities of India also offers courses in creative writing. Correspondence courses are also available at Indira Gandhi National Open University. They offer a Diploma in Creative writing in English, which covers a few topics on travel writing. Do log onto http://www.ignou.ac.in/divisions/empc/auvi/cwe.htm for further details.
