In mechanical engineering one studies fundamentals of basic sciences like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; basics of engineering sciences like Engineering Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Materials Science and technology, Strength of Materials and Engineering drawing. One studies basics of Electrical and Electronics Engineering as well as advanced topics in engineering like manufacturing process, process automation and control, production planning and control. One also studies subjects specific to mechanical engineering like mechanical measurement, fluid dynamics, machine drawing, manufacturing technology, heat transfer, machine design, Turbo machines, internal combustion engines, automotive machines, etc. One learns about Computer technologies and CAD/CAM. There is also extensive laboratory and workshops involved in the course. One has to do basic Physics, Chemistry labs; basic engineering workshop; applied

mechanics lab; electrical sciences lab; machine tools and metrology labs; mechanical engineering lab; control and manufacturing lab etc.

Eligibility to study a B. E/ B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering is a pass in higher secondary examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Some Of The Institutes In Mumbai Which Offer Bachelor Degree Courses In Mechanical Engineering:

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Sardar Patel College Of Engg., Munshi Nagar, Varsova Road, Andheri(W), Mumbai - 400 058.

K.J. Somaiya Col Of Engg, Vidyanagar, Mumbai -400 077

Rizvi Education Society's Rizvi College Of Engg, Rizvi House, 1st Floor, On. Off Hill Road, St. Martin Road, Bandra (W), Mumbai -50

Bharti Vidyapeeth's Col Of Engg, C.B.D., Sec-7, Opp. Konkan Bhavan, Navi Mumbai -400614

Mechanical Engineers can find jobs in any manufacturing industry. If we speak of numbers, mechanical engineers have the largest number of job opportunities after the Information technologists. They can find work in any company producing mechanical products like cars, elevators, aircrafts, machinery needed for various plants, industrial plant components and process equipments, refrigerators, electrical motors, etc. and even in industries producing utilities like electrical power generation. The mechanical engineers can work in various engineering functions like research and design of mechanical products and equipment, manufacturing, industrial process control monitoring, quality control, industrial sales and marketing, and project management.

Apart from going for a job, after having a bachelor degree in Engineering, one can do a Masters degree in a specialized area like Automobile Engineering, Design Engineering, Engineering Automation, Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Manufacturing Science, etc. One can also get a job as a Marine Engineer after going through a training course.
