    My Tests

Just completed my MCA from RIIMS College (Tirupati), S V University. I appeared for GATE and got 86.96 percent. Generally MCA students are eligible to write GATE entrance but in many universities and colleges (including most of the universities) MCA students are not eligible for the M Tech course. M Tech is only offered to BE/B. Tech students. Why is this so? And if MCA students are not eligible for these colleges, then why do the IITs and IISc colleges say that MCA students are eligible to write GATE?

Hello Kshitij,

I will give a suggestion to apply for JAM exam. If you are interested to take admission into IITs or IISc institutes for MSc, you may appear for IIT JAM exam. The candidates who have completed the graduation degree with mathematics subject are eligible to apply for IIT JAM examination.

The IIT JAM is an national admission exam held for selection for MSc, MSc-PhD and other integrated courses. after qualifying the IIT JAM exam you will be able to take admission into IITs, IISc and other institutes.

The GATE exam is held for engineering students who have completed graduation with mathematics subject.

Hope it will help you. all the best for the future ahead.

Not all MCA students are eligible to appear for GATE. MCA students who had Mathematics as a paper in their graduate degree are eligible to appear for GATE. But this is about being eligible to appear for GATE. A University or an institute is free to prescribe the eligibility criteria for M. Tech courses as B.E/ B. Tech. There is no rule to enforce the University or the Institute to take MCAs for M. Tech course. So, you will have to search for institutions, which allows MCA students to take admission to M. Tech courses in Computer Science.
