There is no official ranking of Engineering institutions available in India. So it is not possible for us to identify which institutes are best for Mechanical Engineering courses. But in any case, we are mentioning a few institutes offering Degree in Mechanical Engineering, which according to our opinion are good.

Mechanical Engineers can find jobs in any manufacturing industry. If we speak of numbers, mechanical engineers have the largest number of job opportunities after Information technologists. They can find work in any company producing a mechanical product like cars, elevators, aircrafts, machinery needed for various plants, industrial plant components and process equipments, refrigerators, electrical motors etc. and even in industries producing utilities like electrical power generation. The mechanical engineers can work in various engineering functions like research and design of mechanical products and equipments, manufacturing, industrial process control monitoring, quality control, industrial sales and marketing, and project management. Though the opportunities overall are going through a slump because of global economic recession which has resulted in severe industrial slow down, it will definitely look up, once the industrial slow down is reversed.

Apart from going for a job, after having a bachelors degree in Engineering, one can do a Masters degree in a specialized area like Automobile Engineering, Design Engineering, Engineering Automation, Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Mechanics and Manufacturing Science. One can also get a job as a Marine Engineer after going through a training course.

Telecommunication is now and will be one of the core economic activities of the 21st century. Tremendous development of new technologies and growth in the industry is awaiting the world as a whole. In India, the growth prospects of basic telephone services, mobile telephone services, and newer technology oriented services like WLL (Wireless in Local Loop) are huge. In basic telephone services alone, private sector enterprises like Reliance Industries and Tata and the existing Government companies like BSNL and VSNL are about the invest more than Rs. 1,50,000 crore over the next six years. This scenario indicates that there will be large demand for manpower to install, commission, and manage telecommunication services in the country.

Apart from telecommunication services, another growth impetus is sure to come from telecommunication software industry. This is evident from the fact that almost all the major telecommunication organizations in the world are looking at India for software development. Examples are British Telecom, Motorola, Nynex, NEC, Singapore Telecom, MCI, NOKIA, ERICSSON. Some of them are setting up their own software development centres and others are contracting out to Indian firms like Wipro, TCS, TATA ELXSI, SAS, etc. So the prospects for a telecommunication engineer is very good today.

Electrical Engineering is one of the basic engineering streams that has application in any manufacturing industry. Any medium to large-scale manufacturing industry use various electrical systems for plant operations. Maintenance of these systems needs electrical engineers. Manufacturing industries need various electrical tools and equipment like electrical motors and electrical process control systems. Designing and manufacturing of those need electrical engineers. Apart from the manufacturing industries, needless to mention electrical engineers are needed in electrical power generation and transmission. As a result of the industrial slow down, currently, the overall demand for electrical engineers is going though a slump. But the situation will definitely look up in the coming years.

As far as fees are concerned, all engineering colleges in the state take Government stipulated fees. For free seats, the expenses are about Rs. 12,000 per annum and for the payment seats, the expenses are about Rs. 35,000 per annum. So, there is no question of which college takes reasonable fees etc.
