There are plenty of opportunities in Mathematics today. If your son is keen to study Mathematics, then he should do a B. Sc. with a major in Mathematics.

After B. Sc. in Mathematics, your son can specialise in Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Computer Applications, Informatics, Industrial Mathematics, Statistics, Electronics, etc. After a Masters degree he can get into various interesting applied areas like Computer Science, System Science, Automation, Operational Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Astronomy, etc.

The most interesting area where Mathematicians are highly preferred is computational science. They are also preferred in applications of computer science, System automation, Information technology etc.

Some of the fields in which your son will find career opportunities are - Computer Science, Computer applications like software development, Information Technology applications, System Science, Quality control, Operations research in industries, Socio-economic research, Automation Science, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pure and Applied Statistics, and other.

He will find jobs in information technology software development companies, companies involved in development and marketing of system automation software, industrial automation systems, Mathematical Research & development institutions like Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Institute of Mathematical Science, colleges and Universities, and various other research organizations involved in applied science research and industrial research. He can also get jobs in large manufacturing organizations in their operational and quality research functions.
