Population scientists researches on several issues related to population growth and implement several programs with the objective of checking the rapid growth. They research on subjects like Demographic factors affecting child feeding and its impact on fertility, reproductive behavior of teenagers, factors affecting decline in sex ratio, population dynamics and development, community influence on individual level of fertility and mortality, demographic transition, and so on.

Population scientists are also involved in research on areas related to population studies or which have some impact on population growth. For example, research on impact of deforestation and social forestry programs on women in a marginal echo system, reassessment & reexamination of Indias urbanization strategies in the light of 1991 census and new economic policies, linkages between population, poverty, environment and development in India, morbidity among industrial workers in New Mumbai, Aids awareness and knowledge among students, and so on.

Population Scientists get jobs in various research organisations, University departments, NGOs, and Government departments and agencies involved in population control and related activities.

You have to do an MA in Economics and then do a Master degree in Population Studies, which is generally of 1-year duration. You can also directly do a Ph. D after your MA in Economics. A Ph.D. in Population Studies will make your career better. Alternatively, you can do a Ph. D in Social Science with a specialisation in Demography.
