created: 22nd Mar 2017 Last Modified: 22nd Mar 2017Telecommunication is now and will be one of the core economic activities of the 21stCentury. Tremendous development of new technologies and growth in the industry is awaiting the world as a whole. In India, the growth prospects of basic telephone services, mobile telephone services, and newer technology oriented services like WLL (Wireless in Local Loop) are humongous. In basic telephone services alone, private sector enterprises like Reliance Industries and Tata and the existing Government companies like BSNL and VSNL are about the invest more than Rs. 150,000 crore over the next six years. These scenario indicate that there will be large demand for manpower to install, commission, and manage telecommunication services in the country.
Apart from telecommunication services, another growth impetus is sure to come from telecommunication software industry. This is evident from the fact that almost all the major telecommunication organizations in the world are looking at India for software development. Examples are British telecomm, Motorola, Nynex, NEC, Singapore telecomm. , MCI, NOKIA, ERICSSO N, etc. Some are setting up their own software development centers and others are contracting out to India firms like Wipro, TCS, TATA ELXSI, SAS, etc. So the prospects before a telecommunication engineer is very good today.
