For admission to B. Pharm course, you have to pass the higher secondary (HSC) examination with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the same sitting and secure at least 50% of the total marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together. The admission process is based on your merit in the higher secondary examination and is conducted by Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra (for further details, check www.dte.org.in).

A pharmacy graduate can get a job in one of the following areas in a Pharmaceutical company

Production, Quality Assurance, Research & Development, Sales and marketing.

You can also get a job with a chemist (medicine store) all such requires to employ pharmacists by Law.

You can get a job as a pharmacist in hospitals, clinics and nursing homes.

You can join government regulatory agencies like the FDA as a drug inspector and over a period of time rise to the position of Drug Controller.

You can also pursue higher education and a subsequent career in research and development in areas such as Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, Medical Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and Biomedical Sciences.

Prospects of a career in Pharmacy are looking good today with a lot of companies investing in research and development of new drug molecules, formulations and drug delivery systems. Indian Pharmaceutical companies are globalizing and at the same time more Multinational companies are coming to India in view of the prospects in the post patent era beyond 2005. Opportunities, specially in Sales and marketing and in research and development are increasing.
